Overview
Chatsworth House is home to the Devonshire family, and has been passed down through 16 generations.
Chatsworth House is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape and hospitality, and it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations.
Today, Chatsworth contains works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash.
Explore over 25 rooms in the stately home including the Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sculpture Gallery and discover its art, history and family. Plus, learn how succeeding generations have made their mark on one of Derbyshireβs finest country houses.
Explore Chatsworth Garden, the ever-evolving garden surrounding one of Derbyshireβs most popular country houses. The 105-acre garden is the product of nearly 500 years of careful cultivation and includes an arboretum, rock garden, fountains, sculptures and more.
Marvel at the historic and modern waterworks, discover hidden gems or find your own favourite spot β the historic garden has something for everyone.
Chatsworth House at Christmas feels like stepping straight into a storybook. The moment you arrive, the estate glows with warm, golden light, and the grand faΓ§ade is wrapped in festive magic. Inside, every room is transformed with lavish decorations, themed displays, and the kind of attention to detail that makes you slow down just to take it all in. Twinkling trees, roaring fires, and beautifully dressed halls create an atmosphere thatβs both luxurious and wonderfully nostalgic.
Wander through the gardens and youβll find the enchantment continues outdoors. The Christmas market fills the air with the scent of mulled wine and artisan treats, while the illuminated trails cast a soft sparkle across the grounds. Whether youβre visiting for a family day out, a romantic winter escape, or simply to soak up the seasonβs charm, Chatsworth at Christmas delivers an experience that feels timeless, joyful, and utterly unforgettable.
For our Chatworth at Christmas trip we set off a bit later in the morning and and return a little later in the evening (than some!) to better enjoy the illuminations in the house and grounds.
