Overview
Bruges is a perennial favourite. Our previous four day trips have seemed a bit rushed so this year it is five days which means we can offer everybody an extra day in Bruges itself.
Our base, Le Bois De Bruges (4 nights Bed and Breakfast accommodation) is situated within easy walking distance of Bruges Market Square (about 10 mins) and also has a good selection of restaurants and bars closer by.
The 2027 itinerary will include:
- An included excursion to Kasteel van Bouchout and Meise Botanic Garden
- At Bouchout Castle, stories of the past blend effortlessly with the splendour of the natural world. The castle whispers tales of its former residents and the estate’s rich history. Step into the 12th-century keep, and it feels like you’ve travelled back to medieval times. The rooftop terrace offers sweeping views over the stunning surroundings of Meise Botanic Garden.
- What began as an English landscape garden has blossomed into one of the world’s great botanical treasures. Its living collection includes more than 8,000 plant species, and there are over 12,000 rare tropical and subtropical plants in the many greenhouses. Now covering 92 hectares the botanical gardens are one of the largest in the world.
- An included tour of the Western Front in Flanders centred on the Ypres/Ieper Salient, to include a selection of notable locations from :
- Talbot House, Poperinge – admission included, and Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery
- Tyne Cot CWGC Cemetery and Langemark German Cemetery
- In Flanders Fields Museum, Ypres/Ieper – admission included
- Free time in Ypres/Ieper
- Menin Gate Last Post ceremony
- Free Time in Bruges
- From early morning the Zandfesteen will have set up on the square outside our hotel with a huge number of antique and collectors stalls stretching into neighbouring parks and streets.
- Or spend a leisurely day exploring Bruge’s World Heritage Sites, take a canal cruise, walk the canal path and see the windmills and historic city gates. Short, guided tours in horse drawn carriages leave from the Grote Markt. Or just shop and people watch from the numerous cafes. You might even catch a train to Ghent, Brussels or the coast at Zeebrugge. The choice is entirely yours….
