Wiltshire
Wiltshire is aΒ ceremonial countyΒ inΒ South West England. It bordersΒ GloucestershireΒ to the north,Β OxfordshireΒ to the north-east,Β BerkshireΒ to the east,Β HampshireΒ to the south-east,Β DorsetΒ to the south, andΒ SomersetΒ to the west. The largest settlement isΒ Swindon, andΒ TrowbridgeΒ is theΒ county town.
The county has an area of 3,485Β km2Β (1,346 square miles) and a population of 720,060. The county is mostly rural, and the centre and south-west are sparsely populated. After Swindon (183,638), the largest settlements are the city ofΒ SalisburyΒ (41,820) and the towns ofΒ ChippenhamΒ (37,548) and Trowbridge (37,169). ForΒ local governmentΒ purposes, the county comprises twoΒ unitary authorityΒ areas:Β SwindonΒ andΒ Wiltshire.
