Overview
Join us on our 5-day short break staying in the beautiful Yorkshire town of Harrogate. Harrogate is the definitive boutique spa town in the heart of Yorkshire. Its thriving streets buzz with busy Harrogate shops and eateries. An eclectic cultural scene of events is interspersed among many popular consumer shows and the spa heritage which can be seen at every turn.
Possibly the most distinctive feature of Harrogate is its vast open space that surrounds the town centre, known locally as the Stray, at 200 acres this gives Harrogate town centre a green and spacious feel unique to the town.
Born through a boom in Spa tourism during the Victorian 1800s Harrogate quickly developed a reputation for luxurious getaways for body and soul. The high society of the Victorian Britain flocked to Harrogate to enjoy the air, the space and the therapeutic spa treatments as well as taking the famous Harrogate waters.
We shall be staying at the magnificent Crown Hotel. This stunning hotel offers outstanding accommodation right in the heart of Harrogate’s central and enticing Montpellier Quarter. Just a short walk from Harrogate’s famous Turkish Baths, luxurious shops and the renowned Betty’s Tearoom, The Crown is convenient choice for everyone.
The 115 bed hotel boasts luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets, large fluffy bath sheets, flat screen TVs and free wi-fi. Breakfast, which offers a superb selection of hot and cold items, is served in the Churchill Suite, a gorgeous oak panelled room with stained glass windows and ornate ceilings. The hotel’s bar and bistro has a menu offering mouth-watering English and continental dishes. History enthusiasts might like to know that the Crown is actually one of the oldest hotels in Harrogate. Over the years they have welcomed a number of famous visitors including Lord Byron and Sir Edward Elgar. Both of these illustrious guests have function suites named in their honour.
As well as time in Harrogate we shall spend some time in York, visit the beautiful RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr, pop in to Pateley Bridge which was named Britain’s best village in 2016 and include a trip to Goathland (filming location for ‘Heatbeat’) and Whitby on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and also a visit to Thirsk and James Herriott’s Veterinary Practice!
We will travel in comfort and complementary refreshments are included on the journey.
