Overview
Back by popular demand!! The Judith Mary II is a family run 72 foot long canal boat which has been running for 37 years. Seating up to 40 passengers, fully central heated and run all year round. There is a well-stocked licensed bar, also offering tea and coffee, and toilets on board.
We take a two hour cruise along the beautiful Upper Peak Forest Canal, situated in Whaley Bridge, High Peak, only 16 miles from Manchester, 6 miles from Buxton and 29 miles from Sheffield.
Soon after leaving Whaley Bridge, we navigate our way through the last section of the Upper Peak Forest Canal built in 1800 which is carved out of the sides of a mountain which overlooks the valley of the River Goyt.
We’ll be travelling in a north westerly direction through outstanding countryside, with magnificent views of the mountains all around. The canal is higher than the railway in the valley, and passes villages and towns like Bridgemont, then onto picturesque Furness Vale Marina to New Mills taking in the impressive Kinder Scout, at 631 metres this is the highest plateau in the UK and here we turn and make our way back to Whaley Bridge.
We’ll be served Hot Pot followed by Apple Pie & Cream or a homemade broccoli and stilton bake served with new potatoes, peas and carrots suitable for both vegetarian and gluten free.
After the cruise we spend some time in Bakewell, home of the famous pudding!
